For Clips, Blips and Loops #2, we are inviting producers, musicians and DJs to contribute to the collection of free source tools available here. This is an extension of a project developed in Stockholm, November 2007.

We are asking participants to work exclusively with out-of-copyright gramophone recordings and mechanical music box recordings to cut, splice, reorder and rearrange the material to make beats, breaks, clips, blips and loops that are copyleft and available for others to build on and use in the future.

At the start of 2008 all of the tools will be gathered together to produce a CD that will be freely distributed at a public performance at an event in Geneva on 13th March.

During the next few months, new Open Source files will be uploaded regularly - with a series of exchanges conducted via the wiki.

List of Participants

THIS IS A CHANGING LIST. PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME IF YOU ARE TAKING PART:

Eileen Simpson, Ben White, Saul Richards, Dominic Castello

Uploads

To upload a file you will firstly need to create an account or login (sorry this is to combat spam) and then use this upload form. Don't forget to add your name in the description tab along with any info of samples used etc. Otherwise email your files to info(AT)openmusicarchive(DOT)org.

Mechanical Music

Further music box recordings available here, zipped as one large WAV file containing recordings of 12 boxes (duration 1h5m). Due to its size we're distributing this using our experimental bittorrent tracker. To download this you'll need a bittorrent client. Once your download is complete please leave your downloader running so it can help upload to the other clients. This is what makes bittorrent efficient.
