THE MUSIC ENSEMBLE OF RADIO JORDAN
- The Music Ensemble of Radio Jordan was established in 1959 upon the inauguration of the broadcasting service in Amman.
- At that time, Jordanian music consisted of a repertoire of virgin folkloric songs that had not been utilized. Thus, the Ensemble found fertile soil for the performance of these melodies.
- During the early years, the country's higher echelon showed great interest in the development of the unique character of Jordanian music. The late Prime Minister Wasfi Tell, the first director of Radio Jordan in Amman, as well as Mr. Salah Abu Zeid who is considered the one of its most effective directors, would sit in the control room as songs were recorded. They would suggest changes in both lyrics and music to reflect Jordan's value system.
