FREEBOOTER: an evening of free music

exploring public territory in a peninsula haunted by pirates and bootleggers.

Saturday 28th June

In the unlikely setting of the back garden of The Pilot Inn on Greenwich Peninsula, SE10, across the way from the O2 Arena and in celebration of LFA 2008, we were very excited to test out a funktion-one sound system to listen to the Declose record.

Eileen and Ben played music from The Open Music Archive and DJ Tendraw worked with ten copies of the Declose vinyl - deconstructing the records to create an experimental scratch set - beginning by sandpapering the vinyl. Tendraw was followed by DYSU & MAN ONE (Open Sauce) who presented their fantastic new scratch set using the Declose 12" - specially commissioned for Freebooter. THA 4ORCE (BBE / Mind Tha Gap) and friends delivered a freestyle session, proving that the beats from the Declose scratch vinyl worked for MCs and Scratch DJs alike. Plus, TUNDRA* created a cityscape, made entirely from copyleft licensed photos, assembled live during the event and projected onto a 10ft outdoor screen.
